Enlightenment of Qalb (inward) is when the innerself is cleansed of all its various evil attributes. And the Perfect Spiritual Guide replaced them with good attributes. The purgation of the innerself enlivens the soul which opens the way to journey towards recognising Allah Almighty.

What are the ways to purify heart and soul?

The Prophetic way of cleansing the innerself and enlightening the soul is what the Holy Prophet (pbuh) adopted. He used to teach his Companions the verses of Quran as well as cleanse their inwards as Allah says in Quran. The cleansing of the innerself was through the company of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). He removed the love of the world from the inwards of the Companions through his effective spiritual sing and Divine company. After the physical demise of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), the Perfect Spiritual guides of his umma are his spiritual vicegerent who train the seekers of Allah in the same way as the Holy Prophet (pbuh) did.

What is the importance of purification of heart and soul in Islam?

There is a lot of emphasis on correcting one’s inward in Islam. As a Qudsi Hadith says:
Meaning: Die before death.
Here, death means the death of inciting innerself which enlivens the soul. Until and unless the soul enlightens, one cannot realise the purpose of life which is to gain gnosis of Divine Essence.
